Texas J RAC Scrapbook - Shattered Dreams - Rankin - February 2007
HOME

Immediately after school, there was an overnight "debriefing" retreat for all students involved. Here they heard from families directly touched by these accidents and other speakers.

Following the crash, students witnessed one classmate being removed every 15 minutes throughout the day, as a representation of the number of drunk driving related accidents.

Early the next morning, there was a memorial service for the students
"killed" in this horrible accident. There wasn't a dry eye in the room!

The Shattered Dreams program made a lasting impression on these kids.

Volunteers including Dr. Paul McLean, representatives from MCH Carestar, Rankin ISD, the local Sheriff's Dept, the DPS, and many others orchestrated this very successful and eye-opening event. Shattered Dreams not only increases awareness of the dangers of drunk driving, but also lets the community see firsthand the abilities and skills of local emergency responders.

Rankin, Texas

February 28, 2007

Rankin is the county seat of Upton County, Texas, and has a population of less than 1000 people. Rankin County Hospital District and Rankin County Volunteer Ambulance Service are participants in the Texas "J" RAC.

On February 28, 2007, the Shattered Dreams program came to town.....

The event began with a massive collision, caused by a teenage "drunk driver". The local VFD and VEMS performed for a crowd of about 90 7th to 12th grade students and others who came to watch.
